The crew members were reportedly struck by falling equipment in and around the venue's vehicle tunnel, prompting an emergency response and raising questions about safety procedures during the post-show teardown.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed on 31 August that it was investigating the incident, which occurred two days earlier following Sheeran's 29 August show. According to Detroit's fire department, six adults were transported to hospital — two by an ambulance service already on site and four by Detroit EMS — with two initially in serious condition and four stable; none of the injuries were reported as life-threatening. Ford Field said it would not speculate on the cause while the review is under way, and representatives for Sheeran, who is midway through his Loop Tour, have not yet commented.
