Index – “Earth”

Stereogum · 2 hours ago

Philadelphia-based punk duo Index have released "Earth," a new single ahead of their debut album *Vis Inertiae*, out next month. The band consists of Alan Creedon and Alex Lichtenauer, formerly two-thirds of the Philly DIY punk trio Control Top, and their new project blends electronic influences with a heavy punk sound; the release matters as it marks their continued rollout of the album, following two previously shared tracks.

"Earth" is described as a churning, guttural track built on repetition rather than impact, layering alt-rock hooks beneath fuzzed-out guitar and heavy drums, drawing comparisons to bands like the Melvins. The duo said the song represents a shift in mode for the record, aiming for the album to feel like a cohesive body of work rather than a playlist. *Vis Inertiae* was recorded with producer Arthur Rizk (Sumerlands) at Show Me The Body's Corpus studio and will be released on 25 September via Get Better.
