A new filmmaker grant scheme, Women Behind the Camera, has been launched to help independent female directors shoot their projects on celluloid film. The initiative is backed by filmmaker and actress Armida López's organisation of the same name, alongside production company 33 & Change Films, MasterBuilt Lenses, and ASCF, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving celluloid filmmaking techniques. It aims to counter the financial and logistical barriers that often push independent filmmakers, particularly women, away from shooting on film in favour of cheaper digital alternatives.

Three grants have been awarded from a pool of 500 applicants: to Anna Remus for her project Eternal, to LaTajh Simmons-Weaver for Rubble, and to the filmmaking duo Mack Breeden and Riley Scott of Ginger Tits for Gorge. Winners receive a full lens package from MasterBuilt Lenses, a camera package from ASCF, up to 1,200 feet of free film scanning, and a complimentary one-year membership with the Alliance of Women Directors.
