Alexander, the independent media company founded by producer Cameron Lamb, has launched a dedicated film arm and made its first acquisition, taking all English-language territory rights to Marie-Clementine Dusabejambo's debut feature Ben'imana. The move marks a significant expansion for a company that began as an audio-storytelling platform, and it brings in senior industry figures to build out a theatrical and streaming distribution operation, positioning Alexander to compete for acclaimed independent films alongside established distributors.

Former Mubi acquisitions executive Kevin Chan will lead film strategy, while ex-Netflix distribution head Hamish Moseley oversees theatrical releases, alongside Karina Gechtman on marketing and Austin Kennedy focusing on the US market. Ben'imana, which won the Camera d'Or and FIPRESCI Prize after becoming the first Rwandan film selected for Cannes' Un Certain Regard, follows a genocide survivor confronting her past after her daughter's pregnancy; it will screen at Toronto before a planned early 2027 theatrical release, then stream exclusively on Alexander.
