The Virgo Transport 8, a passenger ferry, disappeared during a voyage across the Java Sea whilst travelling between Surabaya in East Java and Banjarmasin on Borneo. The vessel was carrying approximately 240 people at the time communications were lost. The incident occurred amid adverse weather conditions in the waters, prompting immediate response from Indonesian maritime authorities.

A comprehensive search and rescue operation has been mobilised involving the Indonesian navy, maritime police, and dedicated rescue services. According to initial reports, at least 102 passengers have been recovered from the water, though one fatality has been confirmed thus far. Efforts continue to locate the remaining individuals and establish the circumstances that led to the vessel's loss of contact.
