Philippine studio Viva Communications has acquired the rights to remake Indonesian film "2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7," marking the first time an Indonesian film will be officially remade for the Philippine market. The remake, currently in production, is set to premiere on 25 December as part of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), with the studio hoping it will help draw audiences back into Philippine cinemas over the holiday season.

The original "Miracle in Cell No. 7" debuted in South Korea in 2013 and proved successful enough to spawn remakes across several countries, including Indonesia and the Philippines. Indonesia's Falcon Pictures subsequently produced "2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7," an original sequel extending the story beyond the Korean creators' work, and it is this sequel that Viva Communications is now adapting. Executives from Viva, Falcon Pictures and Next Entertainment World's sales arm Contents Panda all welcomed the deal as a sign of the franchise's growing reach across Southeast Asia.
