Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan said the company must catch up with and ultimately “leapfrog” AMD and Arm in processors, while treating edge AI and robotics as a future market comparable in importance to PCs. The comments underline Intel’s attempt to rebuild competitiveness in servers and manufacturing as rivals gain share and demand for AI infrastructure reshapes the chip industry.

Intel reported second-quarter revenue of $16.1 billion, up 25 per cent year on year, but recorded a GAAP loss of $11 billion and a non-GAAP loss of $2.2 billion. Tan cited strong Xeon 6 demand and upcoming Clearwater Forest, Diamond Rapids and Coral Rapids chips, while acknowledging some areas still lag; IDC says non-x86 servers account for nearly half of sales and AMD holds about a third of the x86 server market. Intel said its 18A manufacturing process is in volume production, while 14A is targeted for risk production in late 2027 and high-volume ramp-up in 2028 amid severe industry supply constraints.
