Interpol have released This Mirror Weighs a Ton, their first album of original material in four years, marking a return to recording in New York after nearly a decade. Frontman Paul Banks says the group’s refreshed line-up and collaboration with producer Andrew Wyatt helped broaden its sound while retaining its characteristic rhythmic precision, with the album exploring reflection, honesty and distorted narratives.

The 12-track record follows 2022’s The Other Side of Make-Believe and features strings, wind instruments, acoustic guitars, synthesizers and experimental sound design. Bassist Brad Truax contributed original bass parts for the first time, while Wyatt created much of the orchestration and David Fridmann mixed the album; Banks also confirmed forthcoming touring plans will include Latin America, particularly Mexico.
