An inquest has opened an investigation into the death of Professor Jason Arday, who was found unresponsive at his Battersea home on 14 August. The senior coroner said initial inquiries gave reason to suspect an “unnatural death”, although police reported no suspicious circumstances at the scene; further reports are awaited.

Arday, 41, had recently resigned as Cambridge’s professor of sociology of education amid plagiarism allegations. A fundraiser for his family closed after raising £224,474 from more than 7,900 donations, while his memoir is due to be published as planned; his family said he had dedicated his career to education, equality, autism and neurodiversity.
