Apple’s iOS 27 lets iMessage users hide or replace the audio-recording button in the text field, addressing accidental taps that start recordings and interrupt music playback. The change follows widespread complaints, including a viral post from Justin Bieber, though Apple has not said it was responding specifically to him.

Users can go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Show in Text Field and choose the default recording icon, a microphone for dictation, or no button. Removing the icons does not remove their functions, and iOS 27 also adds drawing and markup tools, AI-generated suggestions, task automation, support for one number across two iPhones, and improved RCS features such as editing and unsending messages.
