## Key points

- iOS 27 released 14 September with Siri AI beta, English only
- More languages for Siri AI coming in October
- Also adds Liquid Glass slider, new icons, bigger widgets

## Summary

Apple has released iOS 27 on Monday 14 September, headlined by Siri AI, the long-delayed, AI-powered overhaul of its voice assistant. The update marks a significant moment for Apple, which had faced repeated setbacks getting its revamped Siri to market and is under pressure to keep pace with rivals in AI-driven assistants; the feature has launched as a beta rather than a finished product.

Siri AI initially works only in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support due to follow in October. Beyond Siri, iOS 27 brings a Liquid Glass opacity slider to switch between a clearer or more frosted interface, redesigned icons with subtle colour tweaks for several built-in apps, extra-large widgets, an option for a smaller Lock Screen clock, and separate volume controls for ringtones, alarms, timers and system alerts.
