## Key points

- Talaeinik cast US midterm results as a rebuke to Trump and Netanyahu.
- He linked the vote to declining US influence and Iran’s resistance.
- Khamenei said a change in US leadership would not end hostility.

## Summary

Iranian Defence Ministry spokesperson General Reza Talaeinik said US midterm election results showed that Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies had failed. He presented the results as evidence of declining US influence and praised Iran’s resistance to interventionism.

Talaeinik made the comments on social media, saying the results were an opportunity to reflect on what he described as US “crimes” and renew opposition to intervention. His remarks followed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s warning that Tehran cannot trust Washington and that changes in US leadership would not end its hostility towards Iran.
