iRobot made a non-robot floor cleaner
iRobot has unveiled the Roomba Electro Plus, its first non-robotic floor cleaner, representing a strategic shift for the automation-focused company. The $400 cordless device vacuums, mops and disinfects hard floors simultaneously by converting natural chlorine from tap water into hypochlorous acid through electrical current, claiming to eliminate 99.99 percent of bacteria, viruses and fungi without chemical disinfectants, making it safe for children and pets.
The Electro Plus features a self-cleaning dock and provides up to 35 minutes of cordless operation per charge, capable of cleaning roughly 1,300 square feet. The launch comes as iRobot attempts recovery following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in late 2025, whilst also introducing five new robotic cleaning models ranging from $600 to $1,000, each equipped with enhanced navigation technology and the same self-cleaning mop system as the manual device.
