## Key points

- *Wedding Crashers* was a hit, but work did not follow for Fisher.
- She auditioned three times a day for a year without success.
- Her first leading role came in *Confessions of a Shopaholic*.

## Summary

Isla Fisher’s breakout role in *Wedding Crashers* did not immediately lead to steady work, despite the film’s commercial success and her award-winning performance. She later described the following year as a low point, showing how a prominent role does not guarantee an acting career.

Fisher said she spent 12 months auditioning as often as three times a day without getting a job. In hindsight, she felt the films she missed were poor choices and that avoiding them helped her career; she also lacked the confidence to move to Los Angeles. Her career gained momentum when she landed the lead in *Confessions of a Shopaholic* in 2009.
