An Israeli air strike on Gaza City has killed six members of a single family, according to local medics, as the UN human rights office condemned an intensification of Israeli military attacks nearly nine months after a ceasefire took effect. Footage showed the al-Masri family's apartment in the western al-Sabra neighbourhood on fire overnight, with a relative saying Firas al-Masri, his wife Salsabeel and their four children died in the blaze. Israel's military said it had targeted a Hamas operative and was still assessing the outcome of the strike.

Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry says at least 1,168 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire began last October, against four Israeli soldiers killed in Palestinian attacks over the same period. The UN says at least 57 Palestinians, including six children and eight women, were killed in strikes between 13 and 20 July on homes, a displacement camp and other crowded areas, with 34 of them far from the "Yellow Line" marking Israeli-controlled territory. A UN spokesman warned the killings raise concerns of war crimes, while the wider conflict has killed more than 73,290 Palestinians since Israel's campaign began after Hamas's 7 October 2023 attack.
