Israeli Strike On Funeral Kills 7 And Wounds 22 In Gaza, Local Hospital Says

HuffPost · 4 weeks ago

An Israeli military strike hit a funeral at the Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza on Friday, killing at least seven people and wounding 22 others, according to the local Awda Hospital. Mourners had gathered to bury a Palestinian who was killed in an earlier strike that same day, and the attack underscores how deadly violence has persisted in Gaza despite a ceasefire agreed between Israel and Hamas.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the strike, while hospital officials confirmed the casualty toll. The ceasefire, reached after a two-year war triggered by Hamas's October 2023 attack on Israel that killed around 1,200 people, has not ended the bloodshed: Gaza's Health Ministry says at least 1,123 people have died in the territory since it took effect, adding to an overall Palestinian death toll exceeding 73,000. Five Israeli soldiers have also been killed since the truce began, amid militant attacks that Israel says have prompted its retaliatory strikes.
