“It Might Show My Age” – Zelda Movie Actor’s BOTW Memories Will Make You Feel Old

Nintendo Life · 4 hours ago

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, the actor cast as Link in Nintendo's upcoming live-action Zelda film, has revealed he was too young to actually play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when it launched alongside the Switch in 2017, instead watching others play it via streamed playthroughs. His comments, made during a GamesRadar interview primarily focused on his role in HBO's House of the Dragon, briefly touched on the Zelda project and struck a nostalgic chord given how much time has passed since the game's release.

Ainsworth, born in 2008, said he has since immersed himself in the franchise's history, citing its "40 years of legacy" and the character's varied portrayals across games as preparation for the role. He offered few new details about the film itself beyond praising New Zealand, where shooting recently wrapped, as a filming location. The movie, which also stars Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda, has been given a new worldwide release date of 30th April 2027.

  • Zelda movie star Ainsworth was too young to play BOTW at launch
  • He watched playthroughs instead of playing the 2017 game himself
