‘It’s emotional and shocking:’ Halo Studios devs accuse Pierre Hintze of severe abuse and mistreatment, according to new report
YouTuber Rebs Gaming, known for covering behind-the-scenes developments at Halo Studios, has published a new report accusing studio chief Pierre Hintze of severely mismanaging projects and mistreating — and even abusing — developers. According to the report, Hintze was reported to human resources multiple times by several employees, and allegedly berated development teams so frequently that staff became reluctant to show their work for fear of his reactions. The claims add to a wider picture of turmoil at Microsoft's Halo Studios and its Xbox gaming division, which have faced persistent criticism over both game quality and workplace culture.
The report cites specific incidents, including Hintze allegedly responding "I don't give a f**k" to an engineering team memo about work-life balance, and a former employee who said they were verbally "blasted" and told to leave the studio, adding that Microsoft HR and Legal failed to act. Rebs also claims former head of production Michael Fahrny was sacked while on medical leave after a demotion tied to the troubled development of the Campaign Evolved remake, for which Hintze allegedly blamed staff despite poor planning. He further points to Glenn Israel, a 343 Industries art director of more than 15 years who was let go on the grounds that his role was "no longer needed", only for another artist to be promoted into it a month later. Microsoft and Halo Studios have not responded, though upcoming management changes at Xbox may signal potential shifts.
