The entire John Wick film franchise is set to leave HBO/HBO Max on 31 July, closing off easy streaming access to the four-film series just as the future of the character himself remains unresolved. The films built a reputation on stylish, dialogue-light action, driven by Keanu Reeves' physical performances and Chad Stahelski's direction, making the franchise one of the biggest action-movie success stories of the past decade without relying on pre-existing IP.

John Wick 4 ended with the title character's apparent death and a shot of his grave, though the film stopped short of confirming this is truly the end for him. Attention has since shifted to a spin-off centred on Donnie Yen's character Caine, while the Ana de Armas film Ballerina remains part of the wider franchise. Stahelski has hinted the story may not be entirely finished, leaving open the possibility that Reeves could return as John Wick in future.
