It’s time the LGBT activists obsessed with Palestine took off their keffiyehs and faced down an Islamist ideology that wants them dead: JULIE BINDEL

Daily Mail columnist Julie Bindel argues that LGBT activists who show solidarity with Palestinians are ignoring the threat posed by Islamist extremism to gay people, citing the weekend attack on Berlin's Pride parade in which a radical Islamist, Abdul Ballout, drove a van into the crowd and attacked people with a blade before being shot dead by police. She contrasts this with what she describes as widespread hostility to homosexuality across much of the Muslim world, including countries that impose the death penalty for same-sex relations, and criticises pro-Palestinian symbolism such as the keffiyeh becoming commonplace at UK Pride and trans rights events.

The Berlin attack killed one woman and injured at least 29 people; Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen of Lebanese heritage who had reportedly tried to join Isis, was killed by police on Sunday following a manhunt. Bindel cites further examples, including Taliban executions of gay people in Afghanistan, killings by Isis in Iraq and Syria, Hamas's treatment of gay people in Gaza, a 2016 poll finding 52 per cent of British Muslims believed homosexuality should be illegal, and a 2022 Isis-inspired shooting at an Oslo Pride event that killed two and wounded 21. She also describes attending a London trans rights rally where she says activists chanted anti-Israel and anti-"Terf" slogans while wearing keffiyehs.
