Twin Temple offered Jack White support slot after Charley Crockett drops them

The Los Angeles duo Twin Temple, known for blending 1960s doo-wop with overt Satanic imagery, were dropped from Charley Crockett's country tour over their use of that imagery, prompting rock musician Jack White to offer them a support slot at one of his own shows. The episode became a public flashpoint over artistic freedom and religious sensibility within the music world, playing out largely across social media, with Twin Temple thanking supporters, White framing his invitation as a defence of creative expression, and Crockett standing firm on his decision.
Twin Temple announced on Wednesday 8 July that Crockett had removed them from two upcoming gigs, signing off their statement with "HAIL SATAN!" On Friday 10 July, the same day he released his new album 'Frozen Charlotte', White invited the duo to open his show at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on 29 September, nodding to The White Stripes' 2005 album 'Get Behind Me Satan' with the line "Get in front of me Satan!" Vocalist Alexandra James accepted warmly, calling it "a most infernal pleasure". Crockett hit back on Facebook, targeting White's politics with "FUCK TRUMP, FUCK EPSTEIN, BUT HAIL SATAN? NOT ME JACK", telling Billboard "I thought they were like Black Sabbath, but they ain't. Not today, Satan", and later wiping his Instagram bar a single Marlon Brando quote, while White rejected an assumption that he was a practising Catholic and dismissed fear-based "man made up" imagery.

Twin Temple are a Los Angeles musical duo known for combining retro 1960s doo-wop sounds with openly Satanic themes and imagery, a signature that has drawn attention throughout their career. Charley Crockett is a country singer who had booked them to appear on his tour, before removing them from two upcoming shows because of that imagery. Jack White is a well-known rock musician, formerly of The White Stripes, who has a long history of referencing Satanic imagery in his own work.
After Twin Temple went public about being dropped, White stepped in and invited them to open for him at a show in Los Angeles later this year. The situation has drawn wider attention because it touches on questions of artistic freedom, religious sensibility and how musicians present provocative imagery, with all three parties setting out their positions in public statements and on social media.
