## Key points

- Knicks beat Cleveland 109-97 for a third straight win.
- Brunson scored 31 and Towns added 29.
- Mitchell’s 37 points were not enough to prevent a late comeback falling short.

## Summary

The Knicks beat the Cavaliers 109-97 in Cleveland, extending their dominance over the team they swept in last season’s Eastern Conference finals. The win gave New York its first three-game winning streak of the season and lifted the reigning champions above .500 for the first time, after they began their title defence with three straight losses.

Jalen Brunson scored 31 points, with nine assists and six rebounds, while Karl-Anthony Towns added 29 points and 13 rebounds. Brunson scored 18 consecutive points in the second quarter as the Knicks took control; Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with 37, but the Cavaliers could not complete a late comeback. New York improved to 5-4, while Cleveland fell to 5-5.
