James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Spin-Off Series Officially Returns Next Month
HBO Max will release the first part of the second season of Krypto Saves the Day on 10 September. The animated Superman spin-off follows Krypto, the Man of Steel’s super-powered dog, in short comic adventures around Metropolis, extending the DC Universe’s family-oriented output ahead of Superman’s next film.
Four shorts from the first run have been released, featuring stories involving a school bus, Halloween, a mysterious package and a chaotic beach trip. James Gunn has said the shorts are not DCU canon, although he and DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran executive-produce them; further shorts, Krypto & Supergirl: Capes for Hire, are planned without a release date. Krypto is also expected to appear in 2027’s Man of Tomorrow alongside David Corenswet’s Superman and Milly Alcock’s Supergirl.
