## Key points

- A report alleges efforts to recruit a namesake candidate in Alaska.
- Peltola’s campaign and the DSCC deny involvement.
- Chaffetz says Peltola should address the allegations.

## Summary

Jason Chaffetz argues that Mary Peltola and the Democratic Party should explain allegations that campaign aides and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee staff tried to recruit candidates with the same name as Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. The reported aim was to draw votes away from Sullivan under Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system, and Chaffetz says the allegations raise questions about Peltola’s integrity and her campaign’s denials.

The article cites a New York Times report based on texts, documents and interviews, including a former campaign manager’s statement that Peltola was “definitely aware” of the effort. Peltola’s campaign and the committee denied involvement; the article provides no response from Peltola beyond those denials. The claims are allegations, and the opinion piece calls on Peltola to address them publicly.
