## Key points

- Isbell promises an Alabama covers album if Doug Jones wins.
- He previously fulfilled a similar pledge with *Georgia Blue*.
- Jones was trailing Tuberville slightly in polls cited by the article.

## Summary

Jason Isbell has pledged to record and release an album of covers celebrating Alabama artists if Democratic nominee Doug Jones wins the state’s governor race. The offer echoes Isbell’s 2020 promise to make a Georgia-themed album if Joe Biden won Georgia, which he fulfilled with *Georgia Blue* in 2021.

Isbell has campaigned for Jones, appearing at rallies in Mobile and Birmingham and saying he believes Jones can win. A victory would make Jones Alabama’s first Democratic governor since Don Siegelman, who served from 1999 to 2003; polls described in the article showed Republican Tommy Tuberville with a slight lead. Isbell said the proposed album would feature favourite Alabama artists, with possible source material ranging from Hank Williams Sr. to Percy Sledge.
