Jay-Z has released a new teaser trailer for his upcoming HBO docuseries, JAŸ-Z in 8, in which he reflects on his lifelong passion for writing and the enduring appeal of hip-hop. Filmed in black and white, the clip sees him in conversation with producer Rick Rubin, opening with the rapper reciting his famous line "Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is Hov" before discussing how he began writing at age nine and why rap's "underdog energy" resonates so strongly with audiences.

The first two episodes, directed by Rubin, premiere on 18 September, with further instalments released weekly through to 9 October. Each episode centres on a selection of Jay-Z tracks chosen by Rubin, spanning his catalogue from 1996's Reasonable Doubt through to 2017's 4:44. The series forms part of a year-long celebration marking the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt, which has already included concerts in New York and forthcoming shows in Los Angeles, Paris and London, alongside pop-up events and a Brooklyn Public Library card collaboration.
