## Summary

US Vice-President JD Vance responded to a young Republican woman’s question about housing affordability with a vulgar joke about Senator Jon Husted’s backside. The exchange drew criticism that he was being insensitive to concerns about whether young people can afford homes and start families.

Kate White, a Turning Point USA chapter leader at Texas Christian University, cited the average US home price of more than $415,000 and asked how young people could start families while prices remained high. Vance made the joke during a Fox News town hall taped in Fort Worth and broadcast five days before the midterm elections; it referred to a running gag by Donald Trump about Husted.
