## Key points

- Vance dressed as Dumbledore for Halloween.
- Baby Alec wore a Dobby costume.
- Trump joked he came dressed as himself.

## Summary

JD Vance celebrated Halloween with a Harry Potter-themed family costume, dressing as Dumbledore while his baby son Alec appeared as Dobby. The family photos and a video of Vance wishing people a safe, enjoyable Halloween drew attention, continuing the vice-president’s playful engagement with online caricatures of himself.

President Donald Trump also marked the holiday at Mar-a-Lago, joking that he had come dressed as himself after spending nine hours getting ready. Vance and his wife, Usha, have four children; Alec’s birth was the first time in 156 years that a sitting US vice-president had welcomed a child while in office. The article also recalls Vance’s Halloween costume the previous year, which referenced the “Fat JD” internet meme.
