Jean-Pierre Dorléac, the costume designer known for his work on "Somewhere in Time" and "Battlestar Galactica," has died at 83. He passed away on 23 July from natural causes, according to Variety, closing out a career that spanned decades in film, television and theatre design.

Dorléac earned an Oscar nomination for "Somewhere in Time" (1981) and received 11 Emmy nominations, winning twice for "Battlestar Galactica" (1979) and "The Lot" (2001). Born in Toulon, France, in 1943, he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts before moving to the US, where he began as an actor and later transitioned into costume design after working on the play "Marat/Sade" in 1973. He became a protégé of legendary designer Edith Head, also wrote two books, and was known for outspoken and sometimes controversial social media commentary. He is survived by his spouse, Gilberto Mello.
