## Key points

- Pegula called Andreeva a “diva” in a hot-mic recording.
- She criticised Andreeva’s conduct and her coach’s response.
- Andreeva had not publicly addressed the comments.

## Summary

Jessica Pegula was heard criticising Mirra Andreeva during a practice session at Indian Wells, calling the 19-year-old a “diva” who “needs to be humbled”. The comments matter because they make public a personal dispute involving Andreeva’s conduct and her coach, Conchita Martínez.

Pegula said she had lost some respect for Martínez, alleging that she encouraged Andreeva’s behaviour after Andreeva became angry during a match. Pegula praised Andreeva’s serve, intelligence and movement, but said her mentality held her back; she suggested Andreeva could be better than Coco Gauff with a similar mindset. Andreeva had not publicly responded, and Pegula was due to face Gauff at the WTA Finals on Sunday.
