The Jewish Film Institute (JFI) has announced its 2026 grant recipients alongside the juried and audience award winners from the 46th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival (SFJFF). The grants support independent filmmakers whose work explores Jewish life, culture and identity from diverse perspectives, helping bring documentaries, narrative features and shorts to completion. Since 2020, the institute has distributed $575,000 across 44 projects worldwide, underlining its role as a significant funder within independent Jewish-themed filmmaking.

This year's grants total $95,000, spread across seven projects from filmmakers in the United States, Israel, France, Canada, Palestine and the United Kingdom, including titles such as "The Animated Mind of Oliver Sacks" and "The Opera". The SFJFF award winners include "The Wedding Entertainer" (Audience Award, Narrative), "Dust Bowls and Jewish Souls" (Audience Award, Documentary), "The Darkest Light" (Best First Feature), "Oxygen" (San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle Award), "Elijah" (Best Narrative Short) and "Scenes from the Divide" (Best Documentary Short). The judging panel comprised SFJFF alumni filmmakers and composer Miriam Cutler, who praised the selected films for their emotional range and exploration of both personal and global themes.
