This milestone is particularly significant as it marks the first R&B album by a woman to lead the chart in 2026, nearly 13 years after her initial chart entry in 2013. The album features collaborations with notable artists including Kendrick Lamar, Tyga, Larry June and Ab-Soul.

"Westside Whimsy" accumulated the majority of its units through streaming, with 70,000 streaming equivalent units generating approximately 71.33 million on-demand streams, whilst physical editions are scheduled for January 2027. Aiko's journey to a number one was notably lengthy—she waited 12 years and 10 months from her chart debut with "Sail Out" in November 2013 until achieving this first leader, making her the second artist in 2026 to wait over a decade for a number one album. The chart shows stability otherwise, with positions 2–8 occupied entirely by former chart-toppers, including releases by Ella Langley, Olivia Rodrigo and Morgan Wallen.
