Joaquin Phoenix's 2023 film Beau Is Afraid, his first collaboration with director Ari Aster, is being added to free streaming service Tubi from 1 September. The genre-blending A24 production divided critics and audiences on release and struggled at the box office, but its unconventional style has made it a strong candidate for cult-classic status, giving it a fresh chance to reach a wider audience through free streaming.

The surreal tragicomedy stars Phoenix as Beau Wasserman, a paranoia-stricken man attempting to reach his mother's funeral while beset by escalating, often nightmarish obstacles. It features a notable supporting cast including Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane, Kylie Rogers, Parker Posey and Stephen McKinley Henderson, and made just $12.3 million at the box office. It arrives on Tubi alongside several other A24 titles joining the platform this month, including The Florida Project, Under the Silver Lake, How to Talk to Girls at Parties and The Iron Claw.
