‘Job’ Playwright Max Wolf Friedlich Sets Next Play ‘The Holes’ With Robert Pattinson to Executive Produce (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 2 hours ago

Playwright Max Wolf Friedlich, who made his Broadway debut with the acclaimed thriller "Job," is returning to the New York stage with a new off-Broadway play, "The Holes." Robert Pattinson is executive producing the show alongside Brighton McCloskey through their company Icki Eneo Arlo, marking the pair's first venture into theatre production and adding a high-profile name to Friedlich's follow-up to his breakout hit.

Set in a decaying bar in a gentrifying upstate city, "The Holes" is billed as a darkly comic exploration of shame, desire, tradition and community, centred on a mysterious padlocked back room. Previews begin at the East Village's The Wild Project on 8 September, with an official opening on 22 September and a six-week run through to 18 October. The cast includes Bubba Weiler, Grantham Coleman and Tina Benko, directed by Michael Herwitz, who also worked on "Job" — the two-hander that ran off-Broadway in 2023 before transferring to Broadway's Helen Hayes Theater in 2024.
