Renowned jockey Frankie Dettori was hospitalised following a motor vehicle collision in the Newmarket area on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred when another vehicle struck the rear of his car, causing it to lose control and overturn. He sustained multiple fractured ribs and a broken thumb, with medical teams continuing to monitor his condition and perform diagnostic scans.

Dettori had been out of competitive British racing for nearly three years, with his last recorded victory in October 2023 at Ascot. He was preparing for a comeback appearance at the St Leger Festival in Doncaster this September. His management has indicated that recovery and rest are now his immediate priorities, whilst requesting privacy during his hospitalisation.
