John Goodman has joined the cast of Sony Pictures' horror thriller Skeletons, starring alongside Brie Larson, with JT Mollner directing. The casting adds a well-known name to a project that Sony acquired worldwide rights to earlier this year, signalling continued momentum for the creature-horror film.

The film is a modern take on the creature-horror genre, told from the perspective of a young boy who gradually realises his parents are concealing a disturbing secret about his mother's true nature. Brian Duffield wrote the initial screenplay, based on a short story by Phillip Fracassi, with revisions by Mollner. The wider cast includes Kyle Gallner, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye and Daithí Ó Haragáin. The project comes from FilmNation's Infrared label, J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions and Assemble Media, with Infrared financing. For Goodman, the film reunites him with producer Abrams, following 10 Cloverfield Lane, and with Larson, having previously appeared together in The Gambler and Kong: Skull Island.
