## Summary

John Malkovich gives a powerful performance as a CIA agent in Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy *Wild Horse Nine*, a film about friendship, regret and the abuse of political power. Set in 1973, it follows two agents whose work for the US government is set against the looming threat of a coup in Chile.

Malkovich plays Chris, whose increasingly open talk about his past worries his boss, MJ, who sends Chris and his partner Lee, played by Sam Rockwell, to Rapa Nui. There, they meet two Chilean students as the country faces an American-orchestrated coup that will bring military rule and widespread death. The review praises the chemistry between Malkovich and Rockwell, and says the film’s themes reach beyond any one political party.
