## Key points

- *Secret Window* is fourth on HBO Max’s film chart.
- Johnny Depp stars as a writer accused of plagiarism.
- The psychological thriller has mixed reviews.

## Summary

Johnny Depp’s 2004 thriller *Secret Window*, adapted from a Stephen King novella, has returned to attention by ranking fourth on HBO Max’s film chart. Its renewed popularity highlights a lesser-known King adaptation built around psychological suspense rather than supernatural horror.

Depp plays Mort Rainey, a writer retreating to a lakeside home amid a bitter divorce, where John Shooter, played by John Turturro, accuses him of plagiarising a story. As threatening incidents mount, Mort struggles to tell what is real. The film has a 46% critics’ score and a 65% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes; critics praised Depp’s performance but said the story loses momentum towards the end.
