## Key points

- CBS is seeking to close the ratings gap with its rivals.
- The programme has lost viewers aged 25 to 54.

## Summary

Jon Tower has been named executive producer of “CBS Mornings”, making his interim leadership official as CBS News works to revive the programme and narrow its ratings gap with “Today” and “Good Morning America”. The appointment was announced in a memo from CBS News president Tom Cibrowski and editor in chief Bari Weiss.

Tower joined CBS News in 2014 after working on the original production team for “Morning Joe”, and has held senior roles at the morning show for years. “CBS Mornings” has long ranked third among the three programmes, with recent declines especially among viewers aged 25 to 54; its on-air team includes Gayle King, Nate Burleson and returning presenter Norah O’Donnell.
