## Summary

Joseph Mazzello will lead “A Grim Life”, a supernatural thriller set in Los Angeles’ Cecil Hotel, with Hong Kong company Cappu Films handling international sales. The project was presented to buyers at the Tokyo International Film Festival’s TIFFCOM market; its story follows a struggling filmmaker whose pursuit of an artistic breakthrough draws him into a dark secret.

Mazzello plays Tom, who earns a living cleaning toilets while repeatedly revising his only script. A friend points him towards “Böse”, a lost silent film from 1931, and the hotel’s hidden rooms and corridors help create the film’s atmosphere of dread. Max Beesley, Wes Studi, Carl Lumbly and Arnetia Walker also star. Pre-production is due to begin in December 2026, filming is planned for January 2027, and delivery is pencilled in for July 2027.
