Josh Tarling to ride in Vuelta a Espana after brother’s death
Josh Tarling, elder brother of Finlay Tarling who died last Friday during the Volta a Portugal, has chosen to race in the Vuelta a Espana, which begins on Saturday. Finlay, 19, was killed in a high-speed collision with a van that had strayed onto the road during the eighth stage of the Portuguese race, a tragedy that has prompted widespread tributes and renewed scrutiny of rider safety across the sport.
Josh, 22, a time trial specialist, will race for Netcompany Ineos, with the team's director of racing Geraint Thomas confirming the decision to compete was entirely Josh's own, saying the team "fully support" him. Finlay's death has sparked calls for improved safety measures, including better helmets and greater protection at smaller races, with figures such as cyclist Lorena Wiebes and others speaking out. The Vuelta a Espana runs from 22 August to 13 September.
