Julianne Moore is set to take the title role in "Faydra," a new play by Tony nominee Sarah Ruhl that will receive its world premiere Off Broadway next year. The production reunites Ruhl with director Les Waters, marking his return to the Manhattan Theatre Club after three decades, and brings Moore back to the stage in a bold reimagining of the Ancient Greek myth of Phaedra.

The play reworks the classic tale for a modern setting, with Aphrodite igniting an all-consuming, forbidden lust in Faydra for her soon-to-be stepson, exploring the tension between logic and desire. "Faydra" begins previews on 2 February at the Manhattan Theatre Club ahead of its 25 February opening, with the rest of the cast yet to be announced. Moore, an Oscar winner for "Still Alice" and multiple nominee, next appears in Jesse Eisenberg's "The Debut," closing the London Film Festival in October before a December cinema release.
