Jürgen Klopp has been appointed head coach of Germany’s men’s national team until the end of the 2030 World Cup, replacing Julian Nagelsmann after Germany’s last-32 World Cup defeat by Paraguay. The appointment marks Klopp’s return to frontline coaching following his departure from Liverpool in 2024 and gives Germany a high-profile manager for Euro 2028 and the 2030 tournament.

Klopp, 59, left Liverpool after nine successful years, citing fatigue, and later became Red Bull’s head of global soccer while also working as a World Cup television pundit. His first match will be away to the Netherlands in the Nations League on 24 September; Germany will also play Greece and Serbia before beginning Euro 2028 qualifying, with his deal running through the 2030 World Cup in Morocco, Portugal and Spain.
