Karan Johar says the ninth season of “Koffee With Karan” will be its last, ending the celebrity chat show’s 22-year run. It will stream on JioHotstar from 14 October. Johar said the decision was emotional and personal, and that he wants to spend the next decade directing more films and telling more stories.

Since its 2004 debut, the show has aired eight seasons and 161 episodes, featuring conversations with leading Indian stars that often became viral or sparked controversy. A 2019 episode featuring cricketers Hardik Pandya and K.L. Rahul was removed after Pandya’s remarks about women prompted an uproar; the players received show-cause notices and were briefly suspended from the national team. The show moved from television to streaming in 2022, and its eighth season opened in 2023.
