Actress Karen Gillan, 38 and originally from Inverness, was pictured in London recreating a famous 1969 photograph of fellow Scot Lulu holding a Union Jack umbrella aloft, taken ahead of the singer's Eurovision appearance in Madrid. The Guardians of the Galaxy star shared a video of herself and an old school friend larking about beneath a bridge as they tried to nail the pose, joking on social media about the mishaps involved in taking photos with childhood friends now they are "almost 40".

In the clip, Gillan and her friend can be heard giggling and coaching each other through various poses, with one caption reading "Thought this was the one" as they searched for the perfect shot. The playful homage comes as Gillan prepares to take on the role of Heather, wife of Connor MacLeod, in an upcoming reboot of the 1986 film Highlander, having first found fame as Amy Pond in Doctor Who.
