Beth Behrs is set to reunite with her former "2 Broke Girls" co-star Kat Dennings, guest-starring in the third season of the ABC sitcom "Shifting Gears". The appearance, revealed by Variety, will see Behrs play Dr Johnson, an emergency room doctor who treats Dennings's character Riley for a back injury, and reunites Behrs with showrunner Michelle Nader, who previously held the same role on "2 Broke Girls". It marks the latest in a string of cast reunions the show has engineered for its stars.

"Shifting Gears" follows Matt (Tim Allen), a widowed classic car restoration shop owner whose estranged daughter and grandchildren move into his home; the series also stars Seann William Scott and Daryl "Chill" Mitchell, was renewed for its third season in April, and is due to air in 2027. It previously reunited Allen with three of his "Home Improvement" co-stars and his "Last Man Standing" co-star Nancy Travis during season two. "2 Broke Girls" ran for six seasons on CBS, after which Behrs starred in "The Neighborhood", which ended its eighth and final season earlier this year; her other credits include "Monsters University" and the podcast "Harmonics".

Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings previously starred together for six seasons on the CBS sitcom "2 Broke Girls". Behrs is now set to appear as a guest star on "Shifting Gears", an ABC sitcom in which Dennings has a regular role, marking a reunion between the two actors. Also involved is Michelle Nader, who was showrunner on "2 Broke Girls" and holds the same position on "Shifting Gears".

"Shifting Gears" centres on Matt, a widowed classic car restoration shop owner played by Tim Allen, whose estranged daughter and grandchildren come to live with him; Seann William Scott and Daryl "Chill" Mitchell also star. The show has become known for bringing in guest stars from its cast members' earlier series, having previously reunited Allen with former co-stars from "Home Improvement" and "Last Man Standing".

The context matters because such reunions tend to draw attention from fans of the actors' earlier shows, and because they reflect a broader trend of US network sitcoms using nostalgia and familiar pairings to attract viewers. "Shifting Gears" was renewed for a third season and is expected to air in 2027.
