## Key points

- Ryan criticised Brand’s barrister’s courtroom conduct.
- She described women privately sharing mixed emotions.
- Brand was convicted of rape and sexual assault.

## Summary

New reporting says Katherine Ryan criticised Russell Brand’s barrister, Ian Winter KC, after he confronted journalist Rosamund Urwin outside court, and described women privately sharing mixed feelings about Brand’s conviction. Ryan said she felt both grief and relief, praised the survivors for coming forward despite Brand’s fame and following, and expressed concern about what happens next for them.

Brand was convicted of rape and sexual assault and faces up to ten years in jail. Ryan previously called him a “sexual predator” during the 2018 series Roast Battle, but the remarks were cut; she later spoke publicly about a predator in entertainment without naming him. Her comments followed the verdict, which she said brought some justice while recognising that survivors may continue to carry the effects of what happened.
