## Key points

- Hochul welcomed the prospect of Democratic-led congressional investigations into Trump.
- She also wants Trump’s help expanding nuclear power in New York.
- Hochul faces Republican Bruce Blakeman in November’s election.

## Summary

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she was “excited” by the prospect of Democrats gaining control of Congress in November and using investigations, hearings and subpoenas to scrutinise President Donald Trump’s administration. She argued that congressional oversight could slow what she described as corruption and abuse, while also saying she hoped to work with Trump on projects benefiting New York.

Hochul said she wants to expand nuclear power in the state and has presented Trump with a proposal to reduce the time and cost of building it. The White House accused Democrats of focusing on investigations rather than improving Americans’ lives, while a New York Republican official said Hochul was signalling obstruction. Hochul is seeking re-election in November against Republican nominee Bruce Blakeman.
