The upbeat, guitar-driven song was born when Phillips, Clawson and Brown regrouped during the retreat, building a track around a title Phillips had saved in his phone; Gorley, who hosted the retreat, overheard it and stayed to help finish it. The lyric became a confident chorus pitching the singer as a devoted partner, paired with a first verse set in a bar where the protagonist works up the nerve to approach a woman. Hart, who had been searching for a strong "tempo love song" akin to Lee Brice's "One of Them Girls," made the roughly 40-mile round trip to re-record his vocal on the demo that same night, convincing the writers to give him the song.
