## Summary

Lifetime film *Kidnapped in Her Own Home: The Martha Carelli Story* has become one of Netflix’s most-watched films this week, prompting viewers to ask what happened to its kidnapper, Michael Anderson. The story is based on a real 1978 prison escape and hostage-taking, though the film moves the events to the present day and dramatises them.

The article says the woman’s family survived, but she was seriously injured and later experienced PTSD. “Martha Carelli” is a pseudonym from a 2007 Ann Rule book, and it is unclear whether “Michael Anderson” is the criminal’s real name. A&E reported that he pleaded guilty to kidnapping, robbery and assault, tried to escape prison twice more while awaiting trial, and received multiple life sentences; his current status is unknown.
